I love Manila. All it’s tangled electric wires & unplanned urban architecture. I love all the hand painted silly sari-sari store names. I love it’s chaos. I feel sorry for every Filipino visual artist who thinks otherwise & choose not to represent it in their works. It’s like being a Polar Bear & hating snow.

Special mention to all the photo shoots who try so hard to make their pictures look like it was not shot in Manila & find the phrase “wow it looks foreign” as a compliment.
I’ve seen so many posts of the old peso bills in pinoytumblr in the recent past days. I can handle the old coins.
The development (and devaluation) of the Peso.
When the coin A was used, the peso then had a relatively healthy exchange rate with the dollar then, $1 = Php. 2.00. Owning this in those days means you are rich enough, I recall the story of my professor that Banana Cue then was 5 centavos (Php 0.05), today banana cue is 7 pesos.
Coin B was introduced during martial law, it held a pretty decent value still even the peso was about 5 to 10 pesos a dollar. Ang Bagong Lipunan (The New Society) was the slogan of the Marcos Regime.
Coin C was introduced after the Martial Law, but it had a very diminished value now. Rate was hovering between 20 to 25 pesos a dollar. It comes in a larger series and a smaller series. The one in the photo is in the smaller series.
